Victoria Amrita Maharaj has copped this year’s Divali Nagar 2022 Coca-Cola Youth Champ title.
Maharaj took home $10,000 in cash courtesy Coca-Cola, $5,500 worth of data courtesy BMobile and $5,000 from Bri-Ann General Earthworks for the Best Film Song during the final of the competition on Friday night. Maharaj, 22, of Rousillac, south Trinidad, sang cover versions of Om Nama Shivaya and Mele Dola Na to convince the judges.
Classical Indian Singer Sapna Seepaul, 21, of Debe, took home the $5,000 award in the Classical Song category. Sapna performed a Thumree entitled Batiyah and Horee entitled Aye Basanti.
The competition saw six finalists hitting the big stage, with each contestant singing two songs back-to-back.
